5 Common Causes of Burst Pipes
1. Freezing
One of the most common—if not the most common—causes of a burst pipe is freezing temperatures. Frigid temperatures cause water to freeze. When this happens, water expands and cracks weak spots in your plumbing system, eventually leading to a pipe burst.
2. Corrosion
Corrosion is another cause we often see with burst pipes. Pipes can corrode, leading to rust and decay. This, unfortunately, weakens the pipes over time, making them susceptible to leaks and full-blown bursts when you least expect it.
3. High Water Pressure
Is unusually high water pressure raising your eyebrows? High water pressure is an indicator of a burst pipe due to water flow fluctuations within your plumbing system. If you’ve been experiencing high water pressure, give our team a call.
4. Aging
Pipes age over time. If your plumbing system is old or you’ve purchased an older home, your plumbing system is likely reaching the end of its lifespan. Sometimes, old pipes give out and burst, causing detrimental water damage behind your walls.
5. Soil Movement
Ground movement and vibrations might catch you off guard. Movements in your property’s soil could be an indicator that a piper has burst, causing tremors and shifts underground.
