As the weather gets warmer and dryer we all need to think about our preparedness for defense of Wildfires. Here are the top 3 steps you can take to protect your home.
1. Creating Defensible Space
Design and landscape your home with wildfire safety in mind. Select materials and plants that can help contain fire rather than fuel it.
2. Build or Retrofit Your Home with Non-Flammable Materials
Use Rated Roofing Material. Use Double-Paned or Tempered Glass. Enclose Eaves, Fascias, Soffits and Vents. Protect Overhangs and Other Attachments. Use Fire-Resistant Building Materials on Exterior Walls.
3. Create a Plan
Become familiar with your community’s disaster preparedness plans and create a plan for your family. Identify escape routes from your home and neighborhood and designate an emergency meeting place for your family to reunite if you become separated.Put together an emergency kit that includes first aid supplies; a portable NOAA weather radio; basic tools; a flashlight; work gloves; fresh batteries for each piece of equipment; clothing: blankets; baby items; prescription medications; extra car and house keys; extra eyeglasses; credit cards and cash; important documents, including insurance policies.
If you need some help with retrofitting your home with non-flammable materials call the professionals here at CTR we can help provide and install the best possible defense materials to protect your home and family, and as always in the event of a disaster we will be there to bring your home back to pre-fire condition.
